Hello, I'm an Apprentice of 2 1/2 years and was a grunt for 1 year. I hope to be the Journeyman lineman that my father was. The work will always be there. The lights need to be kept on. Hope I can fill my Dads shoes and be the best lineman I can be when I break out. Work safe brothers.

Sorry, I didn't know that my husband already signed the guest book. But being a journeyman lineman's wife for all of about 5 years, I now understand what it is that he does. He likes to climb poles with the rattlesnakes in Southwest Kansas. Be safe and keep the lights on.

I would recommend this book to any and all if they work in the electrical field or not. ITS A GREAT BOOK and I would like to thank you for writting such a great book about the hardships faced by all tramp lineman out there.

Great to find a book about our trade, have spent over 25 years keeping the lights on. A great job, to be out in all kinds of weather. And working with amazing characters over the years that keep a smile on your face.

Oliver Williams -- <olly2cool@yahoo.co.uk> Norwich, England
Its nice to see that others take the job as a way of life. I've been and woodpole and tower lineman for 15 years on the faults side in the uk. In that time I have had close work mates who have been hurt, died or just too burnt out to do the job any more. Over the years I've been all over the uk at times of bad weather and when meeting other linemen from all round there's always that comon bond between us and the want for just one more drink normally!!!

Mel Serento -- Albuquerque, NM
This is a wonderful book. My entire family has read it, and instructed me to tell you they want the next one. My wife's father wa and our son is a linemen, so our family really snjoyed the story of Glade Elliott. Sam said it was so real for him, and he lived the times of the book. Our son says that he wished more of the things were like that today.

Jim Robinson -- <jimrob@fuse.net> Cincinnati, OH
I enjoyed the book very much. Even though I started in 1968, we had some of the old equipment and trucks mentioned in the book. Clay is a good story teller and knows linework or has done a good job on research. I always wondered if someone wrote a book about linework, would anyone read it. Now I know. Thanks for letting people know what we do! J.R.

Raymond E. Slothour -- <intheholler@hotmail.com> Orrtanna, PA
Wanted to add some comments. Started at Adams Electric Cooperative in 1959 as a laborer. Worked way up to crew chief A. Was a hotstick instructor. Last ten years at Adams was as a staking technician. Retired after 40 years at the cooperative in February 2000. Young guys today have no idea how lucky they are with their bucket trucks and hydraulic tools. I had both hips replaced in the 80's and both knees replaced in 2004. But it was still a good job and I'm in good health other than the arthritis.

Wonderful book. I enjoy your style of writing, and love to both enjoy and learn at the same time. I'll never think of those guys working on the power lines in the same way again. I even stopped where they were working and thanked them for what they do. Now when my lights go out, I will be able to imagine what is going on and appreciate what these great people do for me.

This is a great book with a good story and a look at a world of lineworkers that most people don't have a clue about. The linemen and their work as well. I'm looking forward to the next book also. I'm telling all my friends about this great book.

I stumbled across LINEHAND and thought it might be interesting. It was much more! I read a great deal, and will put this book in the category of “accidental treasures”. After reading it, I have purchased my own copy for my special collection. Besides being a peak into the life and work of linemen, it’s a warm and pleasant story. I hope you do get the second book out. Good Luck and thanks.
