Every once in a while someone comes your way that you can never quite
forget. Ray was one of those people.
I met 1st Sgt K. five
years ago. My wife and I arrived at our first “Old Guard” Reunion; Ray
was the first member we encountered. We all know his ethusiasm, it was
infectious.
He welcomed both of us and went into his dissertation
about how TOGA got started and how much he enjoyed being a part of it,
and how great this reunion will be. No one worked harder at keeping them
going. He was willing to do anything and was a whirlwind doing it.
His
love of his family, his love of his country and his love of his comrades
could be felt in everything he did, he asked for nothing in return. And
somehow he brought out the best in everyone around him.
Phyllis
has lost her companion; the Old Guard has lost a friend and the United
States has lost a great patriot.

I was an infantry Sp4 at Ft Polk, La in 1984-1985, and had a platoon
sgt, last name Higgins, (can't remember first name ) a caucasian, who
was a former Old Guard member (it showed in the way he marched, saluted,
etc). At that time he was an E-7. Was wondering if anybody knew him. Thanks,
Rex Oates, Denison, Texas.

Hello,
I’ve acquired an old photo of the tomb, a few people standing
next to it and a guard. I think it may have been taken in December 1927.
It’s about 15x20 in size and very clear for its age. I would like to know
more about it and maybe you guys would also. Think you can help me know
more about who the people are or find someone that can?
Respectfully,
Dr.

Tomorrow, 22 June 2007, marks the retirement ceremony for our Regimental
Command Sergeant Major Craig Roberson after 26 years of service. Crain
and his wife, Lisa, are thinking of relocating to the Atlanta area. Selected
to replace CSM Roberson is CSM Russ McCray, currently Command Sergeant
Major of 1st Battalion, 3d Infantry.
On Tuesday, 26 June 2007,
command of the Regiment passes from COL Bob Pricone to COL Joe Buche.
COL Pricone has been selected as Chief of Staff of the 2d Infantry Division,
Korea, and will be assuming his new duties around 1 July. COL Buche,
who has served previously in the Regiment, comes to command from an assignment
in the local Washington, DC area.
Both COL Pricone and CSM Roberson
have been great supporters of TOGA and all our members wish them well
and hope to see them at subsequent reunions.
